Playing Golf in Bahrain

Here are some photos of the Awali golf course I played in Bahrain. I bet you are wondering where the grass is aren't you? Well you actually carry a small piece of astroturf about the size of a frisbee with you. You pick up the golf ball and place the astroturf under it for each shot in the fairway. The green is that brown spot just in front of the trees in the picture on the left. It is actually sand too. The tee box is on an elevated concrete platform. That is Bill Horne from the Admin Department teeing off.
Once you finish putting, a greens keeper comes over and rolls the green so there are no footprints for the next foursome. The course took so getting used to but played very similar to grass courses. The weather was in the sixties and very comfortable. No one plays during the days in the summer when the temperature can go above 120 degrees fahrenheit.
